INTELLIGENCE DEVELOPMENT STRATEGY for 2024
This program, a milestone for the startup community and innovation projects, aims to bring AI to scale across sectors. With an investment of €1.5 billion, it covers everything from infrastructure and education to AI transparency and security.
🔑 KEY DIRECTIONS
Infrastructure & Education: Spain aims to create a competitive environment for AI development. There are plans to invest €90 million in new supercomputers and the expansion of MareNostrum 5 in Barcelona. In addition, the Spanish-language public AI infrastructure, ALIA, will be made available to companies absolutely free of charge. This opens up unique opportunities for startups looking to rapidly integrate AI.
In addition, €160 million has been allocated for scholarships and vocational training programs. Spain is committed to supporting young professionals and teachers, creating a strong base for long-term development.
Implementing AI in business: Supporting startups and small companies is a key focus. Spain plans to invest €650m through Kit Digital, where companies can get up to €12k for digitalization. Plus €400m through the Next Tech Fund to support tech startups. This is a huge step for start-ups, as access to such grants allows SMEs to compete effectively in the market and incorporate AI into their processes.
Transparent and ethical AI: Ethical standards are becoming an integral part of technology development. The new Spanish Agency for the Supervision of Artificial Intelligence (AESIA), to be based in A Coruña, will certify and supervise AI systems according to European standards. The agency will also represent Spain in international forums, strengthening its position in the global technology ecosystem.
